Families & Society

"I can't even begin to describe how rewarding it feels to advocate for a child, or to help a whole family in their most difficult time. In the Child & Family Clinic I was able to do this, and years later I still work in family law. Arizona Law faculty gave me an outstanding education -- one that helped me understand the law, policy, and emotional dimensions of this area of law -- and I am grateful to have had such good training."  - Rebecca Stahl, Class 0f 2012

The idea of family -- and all that it evokes -- is unquestionably central to the human core, and so protecting and promoting healthy famiy relationships must be a fundamental social goal.

Today, though, families face unparalled pressures, from the impact of external forces such as the economy to the social and personal influences that can produce dysfunction and conflict in familial relationships. As families struggle to survive in this social maelstrom, the need for compassionate advocates will only continue to grow. What policies contribute to the health of families? What principles should guide the resolution of family conflict? How can we better serve clients facing difficult -- and usually emotional -- situations?

Arizona Law's commitment to training capable and compassionate lawyers is well demonstrated. Our Child & Family Law Clinic provides critical services to those in need, as well as excellent training for effective advocates. JD students can earn a certificate on completion of requirements, and MLS students can specialize in family and juvenile coursework, with a broad and comprehensive curriculum.
