Ginger Hunt
Ginger Hunt is the inaugural Senior Director of Online Learning and Instructional Design at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. At the College of Law (COL), Hunt leads a team of six including videographers, instructional designers, online course development specialists and student workers. Her team has produced over sixty fully online, hybrid and flipped courses, reaching over 2000 students around the world in just three years.
In 2017, Ms. Hunt launched an international, multidisciplinary, online Bachelor of Arts in Law degree in collaboration with College of Law and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences personnel. She oversees the development of the degree’s online upper-level courses as well as flipped versions at 3 global locations (China, Cambodia, Peru). The fully online BA in Law has seen enrollment growth upwards of 150 students in just under two years.
At the same time she was assisting the in launch of the BA, Ms. Hunt curated the development of online curriculum for the Master of Legal Studies (MLS) and Master of Laws (LLM) in collaboration with the Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources, Colleges of Engineering, Pharmacy, Public Health, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Education, and Philosophy, Offices of Digital Learning, Instruction and Assessment, Student Affairs and the Disability Resources Center. Each 30-unit MLS degree has ten separate concentration tracks allowing online students to tailor their degree to their needs. The MLS has seen exponential growth enrollment of 150 students in just under two years.
As The American Bar Association continues to update its guidelines for Juris Doctor (JD) students taking online courses, Ms. Hunt and her team work to provide targeted fully online and hybrid courses to JD students. Currently JD students may take up to 29 units online at the COL. This provides many students with the opportunity to participate in externships around the country while finishing their JD degrees.
Ms. Hunt assisted in the development and launch the College of Law’s online Foreign Diplomat Training Program ("FDTP"). Having reached over 130 diplomats in international locations in just two years, it is now on track to provide a third year of U.S. legal training. This program profoundly elevates a Foreign Ministry’s ability to serve its citizens while providing highly quality online education. It is an executive legal education program designed for working professionals. It is not a degree-seeking program and offered only to invited participants through Foreign Ministry approval. Students gain access to legal scholars leading their respective fields as well as a responsive support team to assist with substantive questions and technical issues.
Working in collaboration with the College’s IT department, Ms. Hunt created in-house video recording and editing studios allowing for the professional development of videos for online course delivery, college interviews, and special projects for departments across the University. The video studio uses digital backgrounds with a greenscreen, teleprompters, the Learning Glass, and has a professional stage for interviews.
Due to her cutting-edge work in online learning for legal education, Ms. Hunt is a fellow of the Academic Leadership Institute at the University of Arizona, a graduate of the Senior Directors Institute at Educause, served as the coordinator for the Working Group for Distance Learning in Legal Education out of Harvard, the Vice-Chair of the Professional Development Online Administration Network for UPCEA and developed the Instructional Design for Education in Action special interest group at the University of Arizona. Ms. Hunt continues to serve the global community for online learning as a Proposal Reviewer for Educause and the Online Learning Consortium.
Ms. Hunt participated in a panel presentation at CALIcon17 titled, What we did and how it went: Starting up online courses and programs at a law school. She also co-presented PlayPosIt: Creating Interactive Videos with a Few Clicks at CALIcon18. She led the development of the distance learning track at CALICon by the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction. Ms. Hunt has been nationally recognized as a leader in instructional design for legal education.
Prior to taking up her current appointment, Hunt was the inaugural instructional designer for the Office of Digital Learning at the University of Arizona and helped establish instructional design processes and html design sets for the launch of Arizona Online. Ms. Hunt worked for the Office of Instruction and Assessment as an Instructional Applications Specialist serving all faculty and colleges across campus in developing D2L courses before Arizona Online. Before working at the University, Ms. Hunt was a Curriculum Technology Integrator for the Catalina Foothills School District implementing emerging technology and training teachers in best-practices for technology in education where she won a grant for implementing iPads in elementary music classrooms. During her twenty year career in education, Ms. Hunt taught online as a Kindergarten coach, as a K-12 Spanish Teacher in Iowa, Colorado and Texas.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of Iowa while studying abroad at La Universidad de Andres bello in Santiago, Chile followed by a Certification in K-12 Teaching from Iowa State University with an endorsement in Foreign Language in Elementary School. Ms. Hunt earned her Master of Educational Technology with honors, Certificate in Online Teaching for Adult Learners, and Certificate in School Technology from Boise State University. She was the first educator in Arizona to be certified as a Digital Citizenship Educator by Common Sense Media. Ms. Hunt holds teacher certifications in the states of Iowa, Colorado, Texas, Idaho, and Arizona with an endorsement in Secondary English Instruction. Ms. Hunt is a certified Peer Reviewer by Quality Matters.
She volunteers her time as a CyberGuide for the eCYBERMISSION, an Operations Troubleshooter for the Tucson Festival of Books, a member of the Commision on the Status of Women and as a planning committee member for the University of Arizona IT Summit.
