We were recently notified that Mr Edward (Ned) White, who retired in 1996 as the Head of Public Services in the law library, had died from complications of a fall. The family did not publish an obituary, but his daughter did write one, which is abridged here:
Edward (Ned) Hurley White III was born on June 5, 1930 in New York City to Edward Hurley White Jr. and Katherine White (Dougherty), and passed away on July 31, 2012. An amazing intellect, Ned was a member of Mensa. He finished high school at Ashville School, earned a Bachelor's Degree from Princeton University (following the steps of his father and grandfather) and earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia.
Ned married Sally LouHannah Long in 1963, 49 beautiful years ago. After passing the Virginia Bar Exam, Ned worked as a Trust Officer for the Bank of Virginia for five years then continued that line of work in Sarasota, Florida, for a year. Changing careers, Ned earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Florida State University in Tallahassee in 1972.
Accepting a position as a Law Librarian at the University of Arizona, Ned moved his family to Tucson. Working at the University of Arizona College of Law for over 25 years, Ned happily ordered all books for the library, served students and lawyers in their quest for information, and served as the head of public relations for the library.
Upon retirement, Ned pursued his passion for reading, gardening and spending time with his wife, children and six grandchildren.
He is survived by Sally White, wife; Ned White, son; Julie Ore-Giron, daughter (2003 graduate of the College); and Sally Markley, daughter.
Cards can be sent to the family at 5172 E Woodspring Dr., Tucson AZ 85712.
The family would love to receive memories or stories about Mr. White. These can be sent by mail or email to Juliana.Ore-Giron@pima.gov.
