Recent graduates of the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law achieved record employment numbers, breaking the college’s 2023 all-time high.

The Arizona Law class of 2025’s full-time, long-term rate of employment for bar-passage required and JD advantage jobs is 92.31%, the highest ever, exceeding the previous high of 90.35% for the class of 2023.

The figure, which quantifies employment ten months after graduation, also exceeds the national 2025 class rate of 87.7% reported to the American Bar Association.

“I am excited for the class of 2025 and its historically high employment outcomes,” says Assistant Dean for Career Development Leah Won. “This success is a direct result of our graduates’ quality education and hard work and the commitment of our employer partners.”

Arizona Law Class of 2025 employment by sector

Half the employment for the class of 2025 — 50% — is with a law firm. Eighteen class members are employed by firms of 501 or more attorneys.

Judicial clerkships historically have been a strong sector for University of Arizona Law graduates, and the class of 2025 is comparable. The class of 2025 reports 20.2% in judicial clerkships — six graduates in federal judicial clerkships and 19 in state and local judicial clerkships. The national average for the class of 2025 is 9.8%.

Employment in three other sectors (public service) accounts for most of the remaining positions — Public Interest at 14.5%, Government at 10.5% and Education at 0.8% — totaling 25.8%.

A commitment to public service and graduate success

The predominance of public service roles, as well as employment in Arizona, for the class of 2025 and for the college historically, reinforces the University of Arizona’s land-grant mission to drive social, cultural and economic impact within the state through the practical improvement of key indicators like justice, educational attainment, and quality of life.

Arizona Law Dean Jason Kreag comments, “Our commitment to academic rigor and hands-on learning ensures that our graduates are well-prepared for their legal careers. And, as the first law school in Arizona and part of the state’s land-grant university, we are proud to create opportunities for students, fuel access to justice, and uplift our state.”

Addressing employment success specifically, Won states the individual attention to each member of the class given by the Career Development Office (CDO) before and after graduation is key. “We work individually with every graduate to help them achieve their employment goals,” she says.

The variety of outcomes for the class of 2025, including firms of all sizes, judicial clerkships and public service, reflects the CDO staff’s experience. Employment history in these areas helps the CDO advisors to guide students to their own desired outcomes. Won also notes the integrated collaboration between the CDO and other Arizona Law student services, such as Bar & Academic Success, in this record-breaking employment achievement.

Student summer employment opportunities

The CDO assists students with summer employment opportunities also. As of April, 95% of second-year students (class of 2027) who have reported to the CDO had a summer position lined up.

Employers interested in hiring University of Arizona Law graduates are encouraged to register for summer interviewing and other programs. This summer, interviews of rising second- and third-year students will take place virtually on June 3. The deadline for employers to register to participate is May 15.
