Tuesday, November 19th, 3:30-5:00PM Kiva Room at the Student Union Memorial Center Dr. Toshihiro Nakayama, Professor of American Politics and Foreign Policy at Keio University in Japan, will discuss his views on Japan’s relationship with the U.S. The following is Dr. Nakayama’s introduction to his presentation: “The result of the 2016 US Presidential elections was a shock for Japan. However, Japan has had a far better relation with the Trump administration than other western democracies. How is this so? Is this sustainable? The talk will focus on Japan’s ‘strategy of adaptation,’ and places it into the context of regional dynamics in East Asia.” The talk draws upon a year which Professor Nakayama spent in Washington DC, from September of 2018 to August of 2019, trying to understand the new dynamics in the bilateral relations between Japan and the US .
