When
Please join PCLP and UAIP over the lunch hour to hear from two incredible speakers: Shawn Whirl and Lauren Myerscough-Mueller. Shawn Whirl spent 25 years in prison due to a tortured false confession to a murder he did not commit. His case is one of many tragedies stemming from years of police misconduct under the leadership of former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge. In 2015, with the help of the attorneys at the Exoneration Project in Chicago, Illinois, Shawn was exonerated. He is joining us to share his story. Lauren Myerscough-Mueller has been a career-long advocate for the wrongfully convicted. Ms. Myerscough-Mueller is a staff attorney at the Exoneration Project as well as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago Law School. She will speak about the systemic misconduct and racism that has plagued Chicago law enforcement as well as her career in advocating for wrongfully convicted people.
