Between March and December of 2020, the organization Stop AAPI Hate received over 2800 self-reported accounts of anti-Asian hate. California has seen a recent uptick in hate crimes and violence against the Asian-American Pacific Islander community. In New York City, violence against Asian-Americans has seen an 847% increase in the last year. AAPI violence has continued to rise yet the discussion is scarce. What contributes to AAPI hate? Join us for a conversation about these issues with California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu, with introductory remarks by Dean Vikram Amar of the University of Illinois College of Law. This event is primarily sponsored by the ACS student chapter at the University of Illinois and has been joined by the ACS Marquette, ACS UArizona, ACS Buffalo, ACS Boston College, ACS Berkeley, ACS UDC student chapters, as well as the ACS at-large chapter.
