The Program for Criminal Law and Policy presents Prosecutorial Ethics in Real Life: Geoffrey Berman. Mr. Berman is currently a litigation partner and head of Fried Frank’s White Collar Defense, Regulatory Enforcement, and Investigations Practice. Mr. Berman is the former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. While serving in this position, Mr. Berman oversaw the investigation and litigation of all criminal and civil matters brought on behalf of the United States in the Southern District of New York. He supervised an office of about 230 Assistant US Attorneys, who handle a high volume of some of the nation’s most important cases, including domestic and international terrorism, international sanctions violations, national security threats, white collar crime, healthcare fraud, securities and commodities fraud, public corruption, cyber crime, and money laundering. In 2020 Mr. Berman was ousted from his position as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Berman is also a visiting professor at Stanford law school and a visiting fellow at the Stanford Rock Center for Corporate Governance. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School.
