999 Announcement
ILSA is seeking volunteers to assist the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Tucson with preparing asylum applications for Afghan parolees in Tucson. Volunteers can help 2 ways:
- I-589 Preparation – Volunteers will transfer the bio data from the completed intake forms to the asylum application forms (Form I-589) during the week of March 7. Training will be provided for ILSA volunteers.
- Asylum Clinic – IRC is holding an asylum clinic on Saturday, March 12, 2022 where the Afghan parolees will meet with a lawyer (or law student paired with a lawyer) to complete the substantive sections of the Form I-589 and finalize it.
Training will be provided for ILSA volunteers. Volunteers need not be attorneys, and they need not speak any specific languages--interpretation will be provided. Please contact IRC Staff Attorney Katelyn Leese Federico at Katelyn.LeeseFederico@rescue.org for more information if you are interested in volunteering!
