Ernie & Joe: Crisis Cops is an intimate portrait of two Texas police officers who are helping change the way police respond to mental health calls. The film takes audiences on a personal journey, weaving together two officers’ experiences during their daily encounters with people in crisis as part of the San Antonio Police Department’s Mental Health Unit.
View the film ahead of time and then join the ABA Legal Education Police Practices Consortium on September 13, 2022 at 3:00 pm ET to discuss it with special guest panelists Ernie Stevens and Gilbert Gonzales, both of whom are featured in the film. This webinar will be moderated by Consortium fellows Taneisha Fair (Cleveland State University) and Dedra Brown (Lincoln Memorial University) and will explore ways in which lessons from the San Antonio Police Department’s Mental Health Unit might be applied in other communities.
The documentary will be available to stream free of charge for students, staff, and friends of Consortium member schools from August 24- September 19, 2022. Register on the event page: https://www.filmplatform.net/events/ernie-joe-crisis-cops-aba/ (use invitation code E&J-vent). Note that separate registration is required to view the documentary and to participate in the webinar. Registration information for each is included on the webpage.
