James Anaya to Become Dean at University of Colorado Law

The University of Colorado Boulder announced today that University of Arizona College of Law Professor James Anaya has been appointed dean of Colorado Law. Anaya joined Arizona Law in 1999 and is the Regents' Professor and James J. Lenoir Professor of Human Rights Law and Policy and faculty co-director of the Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy program. He will begin his duties at Colorado Law on Aug. 8, 2016.

Arizona Law Dean Marc Miller released the following statement earlier today:

To everyone in the Arizona Law Community,

I write—with equal measures of pride in his work and regret that he will no longer work from within our halls—to share the news that CU-Boulder has selected Professor Jim Anaya to become dean at Colorado Law.

Professor Anaya has built an extraordinary career here and, in partnership with Professor Rob Williams, has built the best IPLP program in the world. The opportunities that they have consistently delivered to our students are unparalleled, and the connections they maintain with IPLP program alumni in leadership positions on six continents speak to the enduring integrity of the program, its bright future, and its enormous and continuing impact on human rights.

Jim’s field is defined by his own scholarship, and his advocacy efforts are widely recognized as brilliant and path breaking. As a teacher and trusted mentor, he has opened doors for many of you, inspired you to learn and develop as future advocates, and shaped your professional lives beyond what you can now even imagine.
