University of Arizona Sees Global Growth as Second Law Class Enrolls at UA-Qingdao
On Aug. 29, 2016, the University of Arizona welcomed its second class at its location in Qingdao, China. This year’s entering class at UA-Qingdao included 97 new students, bringing the total number of students at the location to 174. Students at UA-Qingdao, located on the campus of the Ocean University of China (OUC), earn undergraduate law degrees from both OUC and UA in four years, entirely in residence in China.
“As UA-Qingdao enters its second year, we are delighted by the positive response of current students and the growing interest in the program among students who see the advantage in a globalized legal market of receiving a high-quality U.S. legal education along with their training in Chinese law,” said Brent White, vice provost for international education.
In fall 2014, UA became the first U.S. university to offer a bachelor of arts in law domestically through a partnership with the James E. Rogers College of Law and the University of Arizona School of Government and Public Policy. The degree program now has more than 435 students in Tucson, all of whom are eligible to spend up to one year studying law at OUC. The students at Ocean University have the option of spending up to two years in Tucson while obtaining the B.A. in law. Together with the OUC students, more than 600 students are currently pursuing undergraduate law degrees from the University of Arizona.

The globalization of our student body here in Tucson, the creation of the B.A. in law, and the collaboration with our distinguished partner Ocean University in the beautiful city of Qingdao are illustrations of that innovative spirit.”
