UPDATE – POSTPONED: Investigative Journalist, “Dark Money” Author Jane Mayer to Deliver 40th Annual McCormick Lecture at University of Arizona Law

Oct. 28 UPDATE – Due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, the 40th annual McCormick Lecture, originally scheduled for Nov. 7, 2019 with investigative journalist Jane Mayer, has been postponed until a later date.  

University of Arizona Law will announce a new date for the McCormick Lecture when available. 

 

Leading investigative journalist Jane Mayer will deliver the 40th annual McCormick Lecture, sponsored by the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and The J. Byron McCormick Society.  

Mayer – author of “Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right” – has written about U.S. politics for over 20 years and currently serves as the chief correspondent for The New Yorker. She was recently named one of the 35 most powerful media figures by the Hollywood Reporter. 

Mayer will present “Telling the Truth in the Age of Fake News and Dark Money,” followed by a question and answer session moderated by Stephen Golden, Esq. and Professor Nancy Sharkey from UA School of Journalism.

Background: Jane Mayer began her career as a writer for The New Yorker in 1995 and has maintained her reputation as one of the nation's most trusted political investigative writers. 

Mayer initially served as The Wall Street Journal's first female White House correspondent and was twice nominated by the Journal for a Pulitzer Prize in feature writing.  

Mayer's most recent book, Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right, has sold over 400,000 copies and was named one of the ten best books of the year by the New York Times and brought the Koch Brothers into the spotlight as political influencers. 

There are two feature films currently in production of Mayer's work - A Netflix adaptation about the profile of Christopher Steele from The New Yorker, and a Paramount feature film based on her New York Times Best Seller, Dark Money.   

The McCormick Society was formed to honor the memory of J. Byron McCormick, who served Arizona with distinction as president of the University of Arizona, as dean of the College of Law, and as an advisor to the Arizona Board of Regents. Members of the McCormick Society foster dialogue about the critical issues of our time through an annual public lecture.
