Class of 2025: Jennifer Torres on How the BA in Law Helped to Lay the Foundation for Her Next Chapter

This May, Jennifer Torres will graduate with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Law and Religious Studies from the University of Arizona. Torres chose the BA in Law program to gain the tools needed to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, and to begin building the future she envisions in public interest law.
“I’ve witnessed many forms of injustice, and I realized that real, lasting change begins with legal advocacy,” said Torres. “I want to be part of changing unjust systems.”
Her favorite class—Property Law with Professor Robert Williams— she credits for not only highlighting the inequalities embedded in the legal system but also confirmed her passion for reform and public interest work.
Torres hopes to use the law as a tool for social change, especially for people who have been historically underrepresented in the system.
“Whether working on prison reform, advocating for victims, or working for farmer’s rights, I want to stand beside people so that they are heard, protected, and treated with dignity,” she says.
She credits her time at University of Arizona Law with preparing her for the next steps, saying “I've had the privilege of learning from amazing professors who are not only deeply accomplished in their fields but also amazing at sharing their knowledge and insights with students. I am so grateful to have had such supportive professors, and I could not ask for a better learning community.”
Torres says she will miss many things of her time in the BA in Law program, like the collaborative community, the challenging but rewarding learning environment and the thoughtful conversations with peers and faculty.
“My BA in Law at the University of Arizona has given me a wonderful network and an amazing foundation for analyzing the law,” said Torres. “It has equipped me with the skills, confidence, and passion to pursue a meaningful career in public interest law.”
After graduation, Torres will spend the summer traveling in Europe before starting law school at Santa Clara University in the fall. She was accepted into their highly-regarded Public Interest JD Program, where she will continue her pursuit of justice for underserved and marginalized communities.
