Class of 2025: MLS Grad Adam Potash Expanding Patient Advocacy with Compassion and Legal Insight

As a hospice nurse with over 30 years of experience, Adam Potash has always been drawn to advocacy—especially for society’s most vulnerable. That calling led him to the Master of Legal Studies program at University of Arizona Law, where he paired his degree with a certificate in Aging Law & Policy.
“I have always been interested in the law and learning more about it,” Potash says. “Of my top three choices, I believed Arizona Law’s curriculum and faculty were leaps and bounds above the rest—and I was 100% correct.”
Throughout the program, Potash has been inspired by the talents of all of his professors. He credits Professor Tara Sklar for helping him develop his legal mindset and always encouraging him to step outside of his comfort zone. He also says he is better prepared for the next steps in his career by serving as a teaching assistant for Dr. Laura Howard, who he called a fabulous mentor.
Potash credits the MLS program with giving him a new level of self-confidence—both personally and professionally. “I’ve learned to examine situations more thoroughly, especially during conflict. That method of analyzing both sides has become second nature.”
Asked what he’ll miss most about the program, Potash doesn’t hesitate: “Learning something new every day. Legal triumphs can fill your heart with joy, but legal injustices can also light a fire to serve others. There wasn’t a day I wasn’t inspired.”
As he nears graduation, Potash plans to continue his nursing career in hospice care while beginning a new chapter as an online adjunct instructor. “Teaching part-time has been my goal all along,” he says. “After I retire from nursing, I plan to keep teaching for as long as my mind and body will allow.”
Looking ahead, he hopes to continue advocating for older adults and others in need, using his legal education to expand the impact of his lifelong commitment to service. “I can now advocate more effectively for older adults—a population I’m not far away from being part of.”
