Robert N. Hornick

Robert Hornick grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduated from Amherst College and Harvard Law School, and practiced international law for 33 years, concentrating on international arbitration, commercial transactions and Indonesia.  He was a member of his law firm’s executive committee, and its managing partner, for several years. He also served as a consultant on Indonesian law and law reform for U.S.A.I.D., Harvard Institute for International Development, U.N.D.P. and The World Bank, and testified before courts and arbitral tribunals in Asia, Europe and North America as an expert on Indonesian law. He retired in 2006 and since then has taught part-time at the UA James E. Rogers College of Law. Hornick is the author of The Girls and Boys of Belchertown: A Social History of the Belchertown State School for the Feeble-Minded (Amherst: UMass Press, 2012), What Remains: Searching for the Memory and Lost Grave of John Paul Jones (Amherst: UMass Press, 2017) and co-author of The Spy They Didn’t Hang: the Lives and Lies of Lothar Witzke (forthcoming, 2023) as well as books and articles about Indonesian law and international arbitration.
