NLG is sponsoring a discussion between activists working to eliminate deaths in jails. Frances Guzman's son died in the Pima County Jail in August 2021, after which time she helped form the No Jail Deaths Coalition. She will be joined by Chava Shapiro, an organizer and non-attorney legal worker who works as an engagement specialist at the Civil Liberties Defense Center. Frances and Chava will discuss the situation in the Pima County Jail, their reform efforts, and criminal justice issues broadly.
