The "End" of Environmental Law? one-day conference will examine the current relevance of federal environmental laws. Panelists will discuss political developments, on-going changes to the landscape resulting from climate change, and philosophical shifts that challenge the paradigms underlying present federal environmental law.

“This conference will look at where we are in terms of the physical and regulatory environmental landscape,” says Kirsten Engel, conference organizer and professor at University of Arizona Law. “Scholars from legal, policy and scientific disciplines will be joining to give their perspective on what opportunities exist to create new models for environmental protection in the 21st century. 

“This is a time of unprecedented change in environmental policy. As science is ever more definitive that we will need to address and adapt to a rapidly changing physical environment, we confront a policy landscape in flux. Traditional environmental laws were based on a static understanding of our physical world and environmental leadership in Washington. Today that model no longer fits.”
