In February 2016, the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law became the first law school in the country to accept the GRE® General Test, in addition to the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) from all applicants.
A study concluded that, for students in Arizona Law’s JD program, performance on the GRE General Test was a valid and reliable predictor of students’ first-term law school grades, and so met the American Bar Association’s Legal Education Standard for use in admissions to law school programs.
Since then, Arizona Law has admitted more than 40 students to the JD class on the basis of the GRE and has launched a national trend among law school admissions. Harvard, Northwestern, Columbia, UCLA, Wake Forest, Brigham Young and more than a dozen other law schools have now followed Arizona Law in accepting the GRE.
