Things You Learn in the Courtroom, Not the Classroom: 2022 Neumann Lecture by J. Michael Hennigan

Attorney J. Michael Hennigan (‘70) will deliver this year’s Peter Chase Neumann Lecture on Civil Justice at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.

As lead counsel in more than 45 major jury trials in state and federal court, and lead trial counsel for plaintiffs, Hennigan has litigated judgments and settlements of more than $8 billion for his clients. In 2017, University of Arizona Law awarded Hennigan a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding career.  

In Hennigan's talk titled, “Things You Learn in the Courtroom, Not the Classroom,” he will discuss his experiences in the courtroom and the lessons he’s learned.

About J. Michael Hennigan  

 J. Michael Hennigan is a founding principal of McKool Smith Hennigan. He specializes in the litigation and trial of complex commercial cases. 

Hennigan is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been consistently identified in prominent legal publications as one of the country's top trial lawyers, including Chambers USA, Chambers Global, Who's Who in American Law, and The Best Lawyers in America. Chambers USA ranks him among the top litigators in California and the country, describing him as "the complete package" who is "highly regarded by many sources for his business litigation prowess." The publication also notes that he is a "classic trial lawyer" who is able to "see very well which elements will resonate and use the arguments to good effect."

About the Peter Chase Neumann Lecture 

The Peter Chase Neumann Lecture on Civil Justice is part of University of Arizona Law's Civil Justice Initiative, which seeks to elevate the American civil justice system and train the next generation of great trial lawyers. 

The lecture series began in 2013, with past speakers including Thomas Girardi, Patrick J. McGroder, Richard Fried and Randi McGinn. University of Arizona Law alumnus Peter Chase Neumann (’64) endowed the lecture in 2016.
