Elyn Saks is an Orrin B. Evans Distinguished Professor of Law, Psychology, and Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, founder and faculty director of the Saks Institute for Mental Health Law, Policy, and Ethics, and a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship winner.

Her research focuses on issues at the intersection of law, mental health, and ethics as well as policy reform and advocacy actions for improved treatment of people with mental illness. Recently, Professor Sakes launched two studies which aim to investigate new wats to engage with patients with decisional impairments leading to restoring more people to being the architects of their own lives. Her work is inspired by her personal experiences battling schizophrenia and acute psychosis since she was a teenager.
