Building on Arizona Law's strengths in intellectual property and information law, the Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship Clinic is a legal clinic that counsels startup and ongoing businesses on securing, maintaining and enforcing their intellectual property (IP), including patents, trade secrets, trademarks and copyrights.
The clinic was established through a close clinical partnership between Arizona Law and Quarles & Brady, a national law firm with a major IP practice, and now includes partnerships with other IP and general practice firms across the country.
Students in the clinic act as junior attorneys representing real clients and are supervised by Arizona Law faculty and subject matter experts from various partnering law firms. The clinic, with its partnering law firms, counsels and advises clients on all aspects of intellectual property. This includes advice on and the preparation of, if warranted, non-disclosure or confidentiality agreements; patent, trademark and copyright applications; license agreements; and government grants and funding applications. The clinic also advises on commercialization of the clients’ inventions; best practices on developing, maintaining and enforcing the clients’ IP; and other general IP and business needs.
