Each year, the Rehnquist Center sponsors a visit to the University of Arizona campus by the justices of the Arizona Supreme Court and a separate visit by the judges of the Arizona Court of Appeals. During these visits, the justices and judges hold oral arguments on actual cases, argued by some of the best lawyers in the state of Arizona. This gives Arizona students, faculty and members of the general public a front-row seat at the highest-level legal proceedings conducted by the Arizona state courts.
Prior to holding arguments, the justices and judges join the University of Arizona Law faculty for a wide-ranging conversation on the most pressing legal issues facing the state. These regular meetings have helped to nurture a close relationship between the Arizona state bench and the law faculty, a relationship that has led to productive collaboration on legal challenges in Arizona as well as a robust clerkship placement program for Arizona Law students.
